Tribes Ascend: Beginners Guide to Capture the Flag

These few tips will help you spend more time helping your team on the battlefield and less time watching them from the respawn screen.

Tribes Ascend has officially gone live and these are some quick tips to help you spend your time skiing around and capturing flags and not waiting to respawn. There are a couple of things that you should know about this game before you really sit down and start playing it. First, know the maps.... just like any other shooter. Second thing you should know is how your gun fires, such as how the speed the shot travels and the ark it takes. Lastly, you should know how to defend with your class as well as attack and knowing your role on your team.  Looking at the maps first, what are some good strategies for learning new maps quickly?

There are several ways that you can learn a new map in a short amount of time, and the best part is that it isn't very hard. All you need to do is just explore by taking a different route every time you respawn. This is a good way to learn the environment, along with noting where the high points are and how you can utilize them to ski. Also, be sure to note the low points and try not to get stuck in them. Next on the list we have knowing how your weapon fires.

Knowing how your weapons fire is very crucial in getting some kills. When people are moving at such high speeds you can't count on just luck to get your hits in. The tip here is to shoot a lot and try not to worry so much about ammo until you get a good feel for your gun. While just starting out, when you get into a firefight, you most likely won't survive for very long so ammo really won't be an issue. Another strategy is to look at the cross-hairs and try and lead your target, but this takes a lot of getting used to so be prepared to take some time learning. This seems like a no-brainer strategy, but really consciously working on it does improve your game. Last pro tip I have for you new people is to know your role.

Knowing your role on the battlefield is what is going to win games for your team. I am not saying that it is not possible to win games without this aspect, but what I am saying is that it will be a lot easier with a good understanding of it. For the most part, the classes are already split up into separate roles, however you need to know that this is not always the case and some classes can play both ways.  A great example of a class that can do this is the Soldier, a stock class that can be a good attack as well as a great defender. Armed with the Thumper and the Assault Rifle, this makes for a very well rounded class and a good place for beginners to figure out what role they want to play.

Hope these tips help you improve your Tribes Ascend experience and remember to play as a team. When playing the Capture the Flag mode, remember to stick to your role and support your team on both sides. Work together and remember that there will come a point where it will click and you won't suck. Just remember to hold on and that it gets better.
