Subject: Challange Start Time Rule

Hello,

I wanted to start a discussion about the rule on challenging in regards to the start time of a match. Here is rule as it is written...

11. Challenging
11.1 All challenges will be made on the hour. Under NO circumstances are matches to be scheduled for the 15, 30 or 45 minutes after the hour. Example: matches WILL be scheduled for 3:00 PM but NOT 3:15, 3:30, or 3:45.

I understand the need to regulate the start time of matches. If I challenge for 12:30 then that blocks teams from challenging at 12:00 and at 1:00. However, if teams were able to start matches at the 1/2 hour mark, it would make it easier for teams in multiple ladders. This season is the first time OMA has played in more than one. We are already having some difficulty for 2 challenges this weekend. We have a match at 2:00 in the Extreme Camping Ladder, and we challenged a team for 12:00 on the US/Euro ladder. The team we challenged is asking us to play at 1:00 instead of 12:00. If we accept this, and the match at 1:00 goes past 2:00, we will not be able to field a team for the start of the second match. If we were able to start at 12:30, and this time worked for both teams and fit the current match schedule on the ladder, then we would be fine for both matches.

Like many teams, OMA is made up of players from all over the world, so finding times that we can all play is sometimes difficult. This weekend is an example for us. My question to the admins, and to the players of the ladder, is does it help the ladder by having a strict rule on challenge times. Would it work to have a rule that says a team must challenge at the top of the hour, but if everything is in place time wise and ref wise to have the start at the 1/2 hour mark, then this is an option? In my mind, as long as it doesn't interfere with other matches, teams should be able to start at different times.

For us, if we continue to have time conflicts between 2 ladders, we will have to leave 1 of them to avoid forfeits. We would rather be 100% into 1 ladder than 75% into 2 if you get my meaning. I'm sure a more flexible rule on match start times would help other clans work around multiple FN matches as well.

I look forward to feedback. Hopefully my long winded post properly explains my question.

Thank you.

Mark

I here what your saying Mark and this has been talked about many times but with no solution.

I would rather spend time talking to you and listening to your ideas regarding this than spending time tapping keys so I will be around tonight if you could kindly spare me 10 minutes.

Look forward to a chat

Good point. What do others think about it? Please spread this thread.

Understand that on the US/EURO Ladder it's 15min per map, so a total of 45min + 20min (MAX.) in between maps. This was done to keep matches under the hour.

The 20min in between the maps and prior to the match could be reduced by 5min at least perhaps ('no later then 5min past the scheduled match' )?

Ladder Standings Page - Section 7.2 wrote:
All players from either team must arrive on the server no later then 10 minutes past the scheduled match time. Failure to do so, will result a mandatory "no choice" forfeit of map 1 call by the ref against the unprepared team. (Match time= Map 1 start time)

Between maps (1 & 2 / 2 & 3) will still carry a 5 minute time limit for all players to be on the server and clicked in. Any team who does not have all 5 players on and clicked in within 5 minutes will suffer a mandatory 'No choice'-forfeit of the map about to be played.

Please post your thoughts.

Actually I didn't realize that change had been made on the US/Euro Ladder. And that certainly does help. I am still a big fan of flexibility in rules where it applies though, so I would be interested to see where this rule can be taken. Thanks for the replies.

And yes Ivor, I can be around for a time tonight. But, I am in California, so there is a 9 hour difference between us (I think..I am 3 hours behind EST time). I'll look for you.

The biggest reason that I recall for keeping matches on the hour was since the US/EURO was 1 of 2 public ladders at the time, and therefore 1 of 2 ladders who had to follow all of the FN rules. Keeping matches on the hour made it so much easier for everyone at the admin level to be able to ensure matches were covered by referees. Not to mention....easier for everyone to remember what time they were supposed to play....thus keeping forfeits to a minimum.

We (the head admins) at the start of season 13, discussed this topic at length and to us at the time it made best sense to keep it on the hour. I have not hear of any talk of changing that yet....but that does not mean we can't.

On that note.....if anyone is willing to offer up a little of their time....we still need refs. The more we have.....the less work for each ref that we have.

Thanks,

DA
