Subject: Desktop Won't Start, Burning Smell

Well I think my PC has finally gone bust.
I had my PC on to upload some videos to youtube, came back it was off, and I smellt an eltrical burn. I went over to PC, smelt it and it was infact my PC.
I don't know what it is, my Motherboard? Fan? Graphics Card?

I see the sandby light on so I know power is getting to it but when I press the power button nothing happeneds, I hear a small ziss like eltric is going through but nothing.

Should I buy a new one? I can find good PCs on eBuyer which have better specs then this or try and get it fixed or a "professional" point of view.

Please help!

Step one: Unplug said PC from the electricity until you get some more advice. Save yourself hundreds of thousands of dollars in house repairs due to possible fires.

Did that ASAP when I first smelt it. I am currently on my laptop which I use to record gameplay. I am taking it to repaire shop after boxing day but hopefully I will buy a new one. This one was custom built 3/4 years ago and it's sustainable.

Yea, there is no way to tell without opening it up.

This is so late but I'm going to answer anyways in case others out there run into the same problem. From my experience working with computers I say it definitely sounds like your PSU (Power Supply Unit) burnt out. Pull it out and if you have another one then hook it up and try it (if not buy one or get one from a friend). 90% sure that'll fix it if not then the other 10% would be the motherboard, but that's rarely the case. Remember to ALWAYS use a GFCI outlet and a surge suppressor power strip.
