Subject: Starcraft 2 Zerg For Noobies (eBook) and Other Coaching
I have begun coaching on a regular basis. Generally, I coach players for free on minor things, and even not-so minor, if we're both on at the same time. Most players who play me in either ZvZ or ZvP (ZvT being my clutch weakness) can attest I'm easily high masters in either matchup. I'm working on my ZvT, however, and don't plan to let it hold me back much longer.
However, a lot of players (some of my students are even Masters) find that my insight into the game, and decision-making, is worth scheduling. I do scheduled one-on-one sessions for $15 an hour, $25 for two hours. These are very low rates, compared to other players -- they will likely go up when I have earned my place in GM.
But this thread isn't about any of that. I wanted to bring some attention to the coaching projects I'm working on. I've begun doing a free weekly show (though it may not be weekly, for a little bit, as I'm having video driver issues with my nVidea GT 220) called "Meta-Game Magic" that looks at different aspects of the Starcraft 2 meta-game (http://blip.tv/theonlyshaft). The first episode focused on a specific Zerg tactic (ling pressure) in ZvP, but the show on a whole will be for any race (http://blip.tv/theonlyshaft/s01e01-zvp-ling-pressure-5397560). The second episode discusses the new season 3 maps, and how they will change gameplay (http://blip.tv/theonlyshaft/season-3-maps-5427945).
I'm also working on an eBook called "Starcraft 2: Zerg for Noobies." As it is very hard to write a hardcopy book on an ever-changing meta-game, this eBook will be updated regularly to reflect the current meta-game. In addition to breaking each matchup down, including scouting times for timing attacks, different methodologies for dealing with the different races, and in-depth descriptions of different pro styles like Kyrix's 2base ling-baneling aggression or vVvTitan's step-by-step approach to ZvT, this book will also look at how to approach learning in Starcraft, what exactly macro is and how to improve it, what major role Zerg production mechanics play, and composition suggestions for dealing with popular strategies at the time. At over 60 pages long, the book is only 10$, and includes free updates for life. Samples of the book can be found at http://www.vvv-gaming.com/forum/topic/48878-writing-a-book-on-how-to-play-zerg/
None of the projects I work on are strictly for Zerg, however. Each project puts a lot of focus on match-up objectives for each race in a ZvX match. A Terran could learn a lot reading the ZvT section of SC2 Zerg For Noobies, and a Protoss player could get a lot of valuable feedback from an opposing point of view regarding his PvZ by scheduling a session.
Anyone who is interested in coaching sessions can PM me here, e-mail me at shaft@fraggednation.com, or contact me on BNet with the realID shaft@claneat.com. I'm also completely open to criticism and feedback within this thread
