- Halo: Epsilon - The Story Begins :: Chapter 1Posted: Jun 10, 20121 Comment(s)
Here's Chapter 1. Enjoy!Chapter 1 - How It BeganI was sitting in my room when all of a sudden the intercom system goes off."Commander Lance, I need to see you on the Bridge ASAP," said Colonel Wingrove.I immediately got my suit on because I figured it was probably another leak in the training simulator because some recruit with a Rocket Launcher decided it would be fun to miss. I get to the Bridge to see Lieutenant Commander Alana (a.k.a Epsilon 2) already there suited as well."What's the problem?" I asked.Commander Alana replied,"While you were resting, we found another Installation.Upon approach the Monitor of this Installation, some 16807 Merciless Fire, told us to state who we were and what are plans were immediately or we would be attacked.""I see. Do we have a working comms link with this Monitor?" I ask Colonel Wingrove."Yes, we do," Colonel Wingrove stated.I walked over to the communications device and sat down in a chair. Looking over everything before trying to communicate, I noticed that the channel was encrypted in what appears to be a Forerunner encryption code. I turned to Colonel Wingrove and stated, "Forerunner encryption? How did we manage to connect? I didn't think that Champ had the ability to run Forerunner tech like that.""It's a feature we've been working on. Cortana gave us some of her information before we left; we just didn't think that at the moment there was any need of letting you know this information Commander," replied Champ."Very well," I say as I turn on the microphone. "16807 Merciless Fire, this is the UNSC Dawn Treader. We mean you and your Installation no harm. We come in peace. Please do not fire on us. We come from the planet Earth."We hear absolutely nothing for 3 minutes straight. I turn to Colonel Wingrove and Epsilon 2. "Assemble the team. I have a feeling we'll need them," I say to Epsilon 2."Roger that,Epsilon Leader," she replies as she walks away."Champ, I need you to keep a scan on the planet. I need to know if I have to send Epsilon Team out before we reach the ring," Colonel Wingrove said."Yes, ma'am," replied Champ as he disappeared into the system."Lance, as soon as we have to land I want Champ to be with your team. Until we know for sure that you will be able to get this Monitor to hand over the Index, we must treat him as an enemy," stated Colonel Wingrove."Understood.I won't let you down and I'll be sure that this Monitor doesn't even know he's there," I replied.All of a sudden the communications speaker system let out a sharp beep followed by 16807 Merciless Fire stating the following message, "You are of the same origin as the Reclaimer. Did you know the Reclaimer and did he send you here?""What should I say Colonel?""Tell him that the Reclaimer sent us to learn more of the remaining Halo installations," she replied."Yes, ma'am." I placed the headset back on and said, "The Reclaimer sent us to learn more of the remaining Halo installations.""He did?" replies Merciless Fire. "How wonderful. Please proceed. All defenses have been shut down to ensure your safe approach. Please do not exit your vessel until I set the defenses back up."I stood up from the console and walked over to where the Colonel was standing. "Well,I've got good news. He's letting us land.""That's great. Anything wrong about that?" she asks."No, nothing's wrong. He just doesn't want us to leave the ship until his defenses are back up," I replied."Ah, ok.That's not a problem." She walks to the intercom system and says, "All personnel, when we land on this Halo please do not leave the ship. I repeat do not leave the ship."As soon as the message was finished, the rest of Epsilon Team came into view. "What's going on, Epsilon Leader?" asked Captain Theodore (a.k.a.Epsilon 3)."Well, earlier today Colonel Wingrove and Epsilon 2 found a Halo Installation. When we started to approach the Installation the Monitor gave us a warning about proceeding. I just recently got in contact with this Monitor and explained we we're from Earth and that the Reclaimer, which is what Forerunners call John-117, sent us to learn more about the remaining Installations. We now have access to enter the ring, but we're not allowed to leave the ship until the defenses are back up and running," I responded."So,essentially what you're saying is, we've lied to this Installation's Monitor to gain trust to steal the Index?" asked Corporal Darryl(a.k.a. Epsilon 5)"Yep, that's exactly what he's saying Darryl," said Warrant Officer Tyrone(a.k.a. Epsilon 4)"Go and get ready for us to leave the ship. Even though we won't be able to leave when we land, we need to be prepared to leave as soon as we can," I replied. "Alana, I need to talk to you alone for a second."The rest of the team walked away. I'm still wondering what they did, but we'll deal with that later. Alana, who stayed behind, walked over to me and Colonel Wingrove. "What did you need, Lance?""I need you to cover me as best as possible," I replied. "I will be carrying Champ with me. We can't leave an A.I. on board an unmoving ship."Champ, who has been scanning the planet came back. "Ma'am. I don't see any threats.""I know," Wingrove said. "Epsilon Leader just resolved the issue. Thank you for scanning though. Please get ready for departure. You will be going with Lance on this mission.""Ma'am, with all due respect," he responded, "I do not see the reason for me to have to leave this ship.""Because an A.I. on a non-moving ship would go against UNSC Military rules," I replied. "You should know that Champ. We can't take a chance on you getting compromised.""Good point there. Colonel, I've programmed a landing sequence we should be fine with this. Please let us go in automatically. Don't be a hero," Champ stated with a look of concern on his face."I won't, Champ," responded the Colonel."Good. Lance, I'm ready," Champ says to me. I took the card that holds Champ and stuck it into my A.I. port on the back of my helmet. "Ready to take this one down.""Now, Champ.You aren't allowed to give it away that you are in his head. He is keeping this information secret so that this Installation's Monitor doesn't find out," said Colonel Wingrove."I understand.So, Lance and Alana are the only ones that know right?" asks Champ."That is correct," replies Alana. "We will be the only ones that know for the time being. If the rest of the team finds out or needs to know we'll go from there."The ship continued its course to the ring without so much as to a misguided thruster. It went perfect and the landing was flawless. When we landed it was starting to get late in the day so we decided to tell Merciless Fire that we would give him the next few hours to prepare. He understood and said that when we awoke everything would be ready for us to come out. So we all took an early night so that we could get out a soon as we can and hopefully get off of this ring quickly. Or so we thought...[ read more ]
- Halo: Epsilon - The Story Begins :: EpiloguePosted: Jun 08, 20122 Comment(s)
I've been working on a story recently. This story takes place after the events of Halo 3 in a different part of the Halo universe. So, without further ado, here's the Epilogue.EpilogueIt's 2556 and we thought all was fine. We were just doing our usually slipspace jumps in hopes of finding the other Halos. It turns out we shouldn't have been searching. I remember that day like it was yesterday. We slipspace jumped to a nearby planet when we spotted the ring. Colonel Allyson Wingrove decided that we should try to approach the ring in the same manner as Captain Keyes of The Pillar of Autumn did.As we approached, we started to get an incoming transmission from the ring.We all thought that it might have been just a pre-recorded distress signal until we got close enough to make it out. The message was as follows:"Unknown vessel, this is 16807 Merciless Fire caretaker of this Installation.Please state who you are and why you have came to this Installation.Failure to do so will result in immediate assault on your vessel. I have ran a scan on your vessel and have found what could be the means of destruction of my Installation. Please state you're plans and who you are immediately."Right away Colonel Wingrove decided that it would be best to get a working comms link to this Monitor and to alert my team to the situation so that we could deliver our plans to this caretaker.[ read more ]
- DID YOU MISS ME?!? o.0Posted: Jun 04, 20126 Comment(s)
I've been getting a lot of questions recently by people asking why I picked this name. Well, actually it's quite a funny story...I have been getting bored with King Thomas 92 for awhile now. Nothing personal just needed a change. So I found a random gamertag generator online. It had two parts to a name. Well, I was flipping through seeing some names that looked cool when all of a sudden Epsilon popped up as one of the parts. Immediately, I was like that's the name!Well, I'm all about two part names and making sense so I sat around for the next 2 days trying to find another name to go with it. Then I happened to think for a second and I was like "Wait, a minute wasn't that name used on Red vs Blue?" I googled it and sure enough it was. It was one of the rampant AIs used in the show.Immediately, I decided that RampantEpsilon would be my name for awhile. Still don't know if I am going to completely change to it or if I might go back to King Thomas 92, but for right now I'm going by RampantEpsilon. It's still me though. So, no worries. :P-RampantEpsilon a.k.a. King Thomas 92[ read more ]
